Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is a treatment used to strengthen the integrity of the joints by thickening ligaments or tendons that have been stretched from overuse or injury. Ligaments are the structural "rubber bands" found within joints that hold bones together. When ligaments become weak or injured they may not heal back to their original strength. This is largely because the blood supply to ligaments is limited, and therefore healing is slow and not always complete. Additionally, ligaments also have many nerve endings and often ligament injury can cause significant pain and discomfort
Like ligaments, tendons are also an essential part of a properly functioning joint. Tendons are a type of tissue that connects muscle to bone, and often cause pain when injured. Prolotherapy stimulates regenerative growth of both ligaments and tendons by increasing circulation to the affected areas. Prolotherapy is very effective, and has shown the ability to regenerate both cartilage and meniscus.
Conditions successfully treated with prolotherapy include:
Arthritis
Neck and Back Pain
Fibromyalgia
Sports Injuries
Unresolved Whiplash Injuries
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Chronic Tendonitis
Partially Torn Tendons, Ligaments, and Cartilage
Degenerated or Herniated Discs
TMJ
At Longevity Medical Health Center we use a specific set of protocols designed to optimize the healing of the treated area and assist the both in the healing response. After treatment has accomplished the remodeling of the damaged tissue, the appropriate cellular anti-inflammatory agents are used to prevent future pain and dysfunction.
